Napoleon x Melon
13. Even more of a challenge
A stared at dark reflection
City lights that wrap around your periphery
Ringo never knew his mother
She moved, died young or filed for divorce
Hiro never talks about her
“If I really become something great”
“Maybe dad will tell me the truth about her”
Those city lights are like a hand
A hand that grabs, and holds in place
The car stops and the engine dies
I’m far too excited now to think of sleeping
I wonder what Melon makes of all of this
She’s too cool to care about these things
The car door opens
Detective Hiro walks into the station
His son walks behind him, carrying a stack of papers
These are the files of the Napoleon case of 20 years ago
“We’re going to be ready this time”
“We’re going to use all the latest technologies”
“This is now a research project”
Hiro remembers foolishly firing his gun
With an aim to kill that Napoleon
This time we’re not going to kill Napoleon
Eyes that are looking
For a view to a kill
“Let’s get out there and find this new Napoleon!”
Melon landed softly on the roof of the police station
It was nearing 10:00 pm, and the street lamps were bright
She had only seen a man walk by with his pet dog
This challenge is not challenging
All Melon had to do was place the note, and no one was outside
She looked over the edge of the building to the concrete sidewalk
Melon dropped down quick, landing softly like a cat
They were waiting for her
Another man foolishly fired a shot
The bullet rocketed past Melon’s ear
She felt frozen, and it took every effort to look up
She felt a hand on her back, trying to grab her shoulder
In a blink of an eye she was balancing on a telephone wire across the street
She shook her hand a few times to detach the sweaty note
There was a flash of a camera, almost blinding
That was more of a challenge
Melon opened her mouth once
She remembered to keep quiet
“You’re going to have to try harder to catch me”
Melon reached out her arms and jumped back towards the station roof
Not a sound, Hiro and Ringo staring up wide-eyed
